Sheng Chen，英国南安普顿大学电子与计算机科学学院智能系统与信号处理学科教授，1986年于英国伦敦城市大学获得博士学位。在1986年至1999年间，曾在英国谢菲尔德大学、英国爱丁堡大学与英国朴茨茅斯大学担任各种研究和学术职务。1999年加入英国南安普顿大学电子与计算机科学学院。2005年，Sheng Chen被南安普敦大学授予科学博士学位（Higher doctoral degree, DSc）并于同年升任教授。Professor Chen是英国皇家工程院院士、英国工程技术学会会士、美国电子电气工程师协会会士。2004年3月，Professor Chen被美国科学信息研究所评为工程领域超高引用科学家。在当时，全球范围内仅有不足200位工程领域超高引用科学家。

Professor Chen在智能学习系统理论、自适应信号处理理论领域做出了举世瞩目的原创性研究贡献，并将这些理论应用在非线性系统建模控制、信号处理、智能系统和智能控制、人工神经元网络、走动和攀登机器人、无线通信等工程领域，取得了开创性的成就。Professor Chen因在高影响力的学术期刊发表的大量高质量原创性学术成果而享誉全球。 Professor Chen的许多学术论文具有深远的影响力并被广泛引用。迄今为止Professor Chen拥有超过12000的Web of Science引用和超过25800的谷歌学术引用。

Professor Chen入选为英国皇家工程院院士的嘉奖理由为：在智能学习系统理论、自适应信号处理理论以及这些理论在机器人技术、医学、航天与国防和移动通信等领域的广泛应用做出的杰出性研究成果和国际先驱性贡献。Professor Chen提出的一系列智能学习算法研究成果在工程领域已获得超高引用，相关论文也成为对应领域中具有开创性工作的顶级论文。

讲座内容：

With 5G comes the fully connected world ONLY on land. Extensive research efforts, particularly in China, have turned to connecting ‘City in the Sky’ and ‘City on the Ocean’ in order to realize the fully connected world. Current researches seem focusing on connecting each aeroplane to the land network and connecting each ship to the land network directly. This is a wrong and impossible to connect City in the Sky and City on the Ocean this way. In this talk, a completed new approach is proposed. Rather than the impossible task of connecting the flights to the land network via ground stations and satellites, we propose to interconnect the aeroplanes to form an aeronautical ad hoc network (AANET) so as to realize ‘Internet above the cloud’. The key to connect City in the Sky is an enabling air-to-air transmission technique which we have already investigated. Similarly, instead of the impossible task of connecting the ships to the land network via shore stations and satellites, we propose to interconnect the ships to form an oceanic ad hoc network (OANET) so as to realize ‘Internet above the Wave’.
